GRAND RAPIDS — Freezing temperatures with traipses of snow and a blizzard warning did not keep more than 100 families from stocking up on everything from chocolate milk to fruits and vegetables Wednesday afternoon.
The food distribution was sponsored by Cherry Street Health Services at St. James Catholic Church, 733 Bridge St. NW.
Nora Black was grateful for a box full of grapes, potatoes, apples, rolls, carrots and chocolate milk that volunteers provided her with.
“I got a lot of fruit,” the mother of two said. “That’s really expensive, especially at the store.”
About 5,380 pounds of food was provided by Feeding America West Michigan.
